Cars, Bars and Dead Rock Stars
Where bass players once roamed, condos now rule. Experience the revolution as we take a trip through this eclectic neighborhood's past,
present and future. Street cars first ran up Pike and Pine about 1891, allowing people to build houses away from an
increasingly crowded downtown. 1905 saw the arrival of Seattle's first automobile. The Pike/Pine corridor became the auto center of the Northwest, and remained so until after World War II. The majority of commercial buildings on the tour were built as auto showrooms, a repair shops, garages or a parts dealer.
This tour lasts approximately 2 hours and begins on Capitol Hill outside the Broadway Performance Hall, 1625 Broadway. Advance registration is strongly encouraged; walk-ups are limited to space available. Tour is $15 in advance/$20 day of.
Upcoming Tour Dates:
2010: 5/22, 6/5, 7/24, 8/14 (all Saturdays at 10am)
