International District:
Diversity Defined
Rich in art, music, history and design, the old "Chinatown" continues to evolve and inspire. The I-District exists today as both a historically significant and thriving community shaped by the desires and needs of successive waves of Asian immigrants. Throughout its unique history the "neighborhood" has always had the attributes of a small city in that virtually every good and service that its residents might need can be found within its 40 blocks. This concept is particularly interesting today as we reexamine ideas of urban planning including mixed-use building, open space, and access to mass transportation. This tour will explore how this community created and continues to maintain a strong sense of identity through design choices.

This tour lasts approximately 2 hours and begins in the International District at the plaza at the intersection of 5th Ave and King St., (across from the Chinese Gate) at 10 am. Advance registration is strongly encouraged; walk-ups are limited to space available. Tour is $15 in advance/$20 day of.

Upcoming Tour Dates:
2010: 5/22, 6/26, 7/24, 8/28 (all Saturdays at 10am)
