February, 2007 — Fort Worden

We took a trip through Port Townsend to Fort Worden. And here are the pics.

For my design job, I actually did a calendar of Northwest parks, which included Worden. However, the calendar focuses on the pretty above-ground barracks... and all Web material on the subject fails to mention the series of uber-cool underground tunnels that intersect and connect all the old bunkers together. Letha had remembered it from her childhood, when she had an adventure here with her father. We decided to re-visit and see what we could find. There were several pitch black tunnels and openings large enough just for a child to fit through. I was amazed... they don't keep things like this open to the public where I'm from.

The photos reminded me of the Puerto Rico shoot, because there were so many gorgeous textures. Some of these get pretty creepy. My apologies for anyone who has a seizure or witnesses something divine or horrific within these photos.

A personal favorite, this looks like something out of the Jacek Yerka book my brother bought me.

We go inside. I had to lighten these in Photoshop, it got pretty dark.

And then we go down.

Coming through the tunnels.

Someone should explain the black ooze to me. Not to mention the hobbit doors and cables that don't quite fit the grooves.

Girl, you crazy.

Some of the best textures I've ever found.

Took lots of shots of these rings. I'm not sure what fascinates me about them.

Giant robot binoculars.

For my dad.
